Course DescriptionThis course has been designed to prepare students who are interested in cars and want to know more about how they work. This course provides you with practical hands on experience of how car engines work and the requirements needed to work in a safe work environment. The course is delivered at Mount Barker TAFE SA where students have access to a fully functioning workshop. Some of the activities encountered will include using and maintaining tools and equipment, testing and charging batteries and servicing braking systems. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of servicing tasks in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. PathwaysAutomotive Serviceperson | Apprenticeship into Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (If employer available)
Entry RequirementsStudents in Year 11 will need to demonstrate an interest or experience in this industry. Students in Year 11 will also need to undertake the VET Readiness Orientation (VETRO) process in Semester 2, 2021 via a referral process completed at their Home School using an online form. Once the Home School has completed the referral process, students will be required to undertake a Snapshot Reading and Numeracy Assessment to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy ability.
Other RequirementsStudents are required to purchase the following Personal Protective Equipment to be used at ALL times in the workshop. . Steel capped boots . Cotton long sleeve work shirt and pants . Safety glasses

An additional class may be run on Tuesdays should enrolment numbers make this viable.

This training cost may vary in 2022 and does not include consumables.

This training cost is the gap fee payable after subsidised government funding from the Department for Innovation and Skills (VFSS).

For DfE families who qualify for School Card, there may be no cost for this course.
