Course DescriptionThis qualification will give students the skills and knowledge to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing. With industry moving to follow individualised plans to provide a person-centred approach, you will learn how to tailor support, how to empower and communicate with clients, safe work practices and about the human body and supporting its healthy functioning. It is the standard entry qualification for personal care work in a residential aged care facility (Nursing Home). Delivery of this qualification includes formal study and a Structured Work Placement in a relevant setting. Information provided about this course may be subject to change.
PathwaysThis qualification offers pathways to employment as a Direct Care Worker in Residential or Community Aged Care. It also offers a pathway to further study in many areas including Disability Services, Leisure and Health, Enrolled and Registered Nursing.
Entry RequirementsStudents in Year 11 must have a strong interest in Aged Care and a moderate level of literacy and numeracy. Students in Year 11 will also need to undertake the VET Readiness Orientation (VETRO) process in Semester 2, 2021 via a referral process completed at their Home School using an online form. Once the Home School has completed the referral process, students will be required to undertake a Snapshot Reading and Numeracy Assessment to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy ability.
Other RequirementsA Department of Human Services (DHS) clearance is required by ALL students prior to the starting of this course. Because you are classed as a VOLUNTEER student when on work placement - the DHS is free of charge. Please note that you MUST apply for the Working with Children check. Dates and Times35 weekly sessions at St Francis de Sales College on Wednesdays from 09:00 until 15:00.
Commencement date 09/02/22.
Commencement date will be Wednesday 9 February 2022. Completion date: All course delivery will completed in 2022 with placement and assessment requirements being finalised in February 2023.
Work Placement20 days
All students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work placement in an accredited Early Childcare Centre and complete performance tasks to achieve competency.

This training cost is the gap fee payable after subsidised government funding from the Department for Innovation and Skills (VFSS).

For DfE families who qualify for School Card, there may be no cost for this course.

FULL FEE FOR SERVICE COST for this course is $2890 plus any applicable administration fee.

Non-member schools - an additional 15% admin levy up to a maximum of $250.00 per student.
Cost NotesThis course is delivered by a National Accredited Training Organisation with an approved Funded Activities Agreement with the Department of Innovation and Skills, and as such, students may be eligible to be funded for the Training Cost of this course under the Subsidised Training List for VET in Schools. From January 2022, students who turn 16 in Year 11 will be able to access subsidised traniing from the beginning of the school year. Please refer to your school's VET Coordinator for more information.

Selection ProcessAn interview will be required for all new students applying into this course. The interview will be conducted at St Francis de Sales College, Mount Barker campus. Applicants will be contacted directly by St Francis de Sales College to confirm the time and date of the interview.
Orientation DetailsAll students will have an induction day on Day 1 of the course commencement to go through: Housekeeping; Expectations; Studying VET; Code of Conduct; Simulated Assessment; Assessment requirements; Work placement requirements; Work Health and Safety.
