Course DescriptionThis course offers a range of practical and industry specific skills where the students will gain experience in the preparation and service of food and beverage in a range of styles and service environments. Students are provided with the opportunity to apply their skills through various service styles ranging from counter sales through to setting up and service for luncheons and formal dinners.
PathwaysThis qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in food and beverage service. It can also lead to further study and qualifications in hospitality management, including Bachelor Degrees.
Entry RequirementsCompletion of Certificate II in Hospitality, genuine interest in the hospitality industry and sound literacy and numeracy skills.
Other RequirementsTrainees will need to wear closed in black leather shoes, white or black full or ¾ length sleeve business shirt and black dress pants or black business skirt of respectable length (eg: as available from Work Locker in Mt Barker). A display folder, A4 pad, pen and locker padlock are required. Students will be issued with a name badge which is part of the uniform to be worn each week.

Dates and Times18 weekly sessions at TAFE SA Mount Barker Campus on Thursdays from 08:45 until 15:15.

Functions outside of course hours may be required.

36 service points of work experience through function catering and industry placement and some part-time employment in the Hospitality industry is required (12 points are acquired through completion of the Certificate II in Hospitality).
SACE DetailsSACE Stage 2, 25 SACE credits
Students who have completed Certificate II in Hospitality may be able to claim Stage 2 SACE credits with some of the competencies from Certificate II in Hospitality. This is a full Certificate III which may contribute to an ATAR.
