Course DescriptionThis course is delivered at a farming workplace, where available, with theory delivered at school sites and online learning. This course is delivered over an 18 month to 2 year period and can be made available where there is a continual intake of students throughout the year. Students are invited to spend time at the RST on the Yorke Peninsula to operate machinery such as tractor, backhoe, excavator and telehandler until competency can be achieved. Delivery hours may vary according to the desired industry segment and previous experience of students.
PathwaysOn completion of this course, students will be able to pursue pathways in the following areas: Cattle Farmhand, Dairy Farmhand, Feedlot Feeding and Milling Hand, Feedlock Maintenance Hand, Livestock Transporter, Piggery Attendant, Poultry Hand, Station Hand (Sheep and Wheat), Station Hand (Sheep and Wool), Stud Farm Worker, Farmhand (Grain), Other pathways can be explored on a case by case basis.
Entry RequirementsStudents in Year 11 will need to be able to demonstrate an interest or experience in this industry. Students in Year 11 will also need to undertake the VET Readiness Orientation (VETRO) process in Semester 2, 2021 via a referral process completed at their Home School using an online form. Once the Home School has completed the referral process, students will be required to undertake a Snapshot Reading and Numeracy Assessment to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy ability.
Other RequirementsSafety work boots, long sleeved cotton shirt (preferably hi-viz), and long pants, either denim or cotton drill are required.

Selection ProcessStudents wishing to study this course in 2022 will be required to attend an information session at Oakbank Area School one a date which is to be confirmed.
