Course DescriptionThe Construction Pathways full year program is a highly practical one which is supported by theory and is designed for students wishing to explore a career in the building and construction industry. The focus is on providing hands on practical experience in the trade areas of carpentry, concreting, tiling, painting and decorating, joinery, plastering, plaster board fixing/flushing, bricklaying and demolition. Students complete competencies from the Construction Training package. Students will complete their National White Card training which is the regulatory authority requirement before entry to a work site is permitted. High standards of safe work practices are expected and enforced throughout the course. All students are required to organise and participate in Structured Workplace Learning in industry settings.
PathwaysThis course leads to Certificate III courses in a range of different trade areas as well as possibilities in School Based Apprenticeships and full-time Apprenticeships.
Entry RequirementsGenuine interest in the Construction Industry and sound literacy and numeracy skills. Pre-couse requirement for TGSS funded students is White-Card completion prior to course commencement ($100 per head). A Term 3 2020 date for White-Card completion TBA.
Other RequirementsStudents must supply their own steel capped boots, 8m quality tape measure and a box of quality disposable dust masks. The tape measure and box of dust masks must be labelled with the student's name. Other personal protective clothing and equipment will be supplied by the course and will include safety glasses, a shirt, riggers gloves and ear muffs. Shirts are to be worn and visible at all times while on site.

Students and their families are responsible for organising 70 hours of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) in the construction industry. The 70 hours of SWL must be completed by the end of the Term 3 holidays.

This course is delivered by an approved Skilling South Australia training provider, and as such, students may be eligible to be funded for the Training Cost of this course under a Training Guarantee for SACE students (TGSS). ­ From January 2021, students who turn 16 in year 11 will be able to access subsidised training from the beginning of the school year. Please refer to your school's VET Coordinator for more information. This does not cover consumables.

Non-member schools - an additional 15% admin levy up to a maximum of $250.00 per student.

Selection ProcessSubmission of a resume, attendance at an interview and successful completion of the interview. If the number of applicants is higher than the number of positions, selection will be based on the regional criteria and the Construction Industry Training Board selection criteria.
Orientation DetailsOrientation is undertaken on the first day Wednesday 30 January 2021. Students to meet at the Building and Construction Centre at Heathfield High School.
