Course Description | This course has been designed to prepare students who are interested in cars and want to know more about how they work. This course provides you with practical hands-on experience of how car engines work and the requirements needed to work in a safe work environment. The course is delivered at Mount Barker TAFE SA where students have access to a fully functioning workshop. Some of the activities encountered will include using and maintaining tools and equipment, testing and charging batteries and servicing braking systems. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of servicing tasks in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. Entry Requirements | Successful completion of the Year 1 course.
Genuine interest in the Automotive industry and sound literacy and numeracy skills. Successful completion of the Automotive Taster course is highly recommended. Successful completion of the VET Readiness Orientation (VETRO) process in Semester 2, 2023, will be required to access this course under a subsidised training contract (VFSS).
Students will undertake the VET Readiness Orientation (VETRO) process in Semester 2, 2023 via a referral process completed at their Home School using an online from. Once the Home School has completed the referral process, students will be required to undertake a Snapshot Reading and Numeracy Assessment to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy ability. |
Other Requirements | Students are required to purchase the following Personal Protective Equipment, to be used at ALL times in the workshop:
- Steel capped boots
- Cotton long sleeve work shirt and pants
- Safety glasses |

Training Cost | $255.00 GST exempt May be subject to change in 2024.
This course is delivered by an approved registered training provider and as such, students may be eligible to be funded for the training cost of this course under a subsidised training contract (VFSS). Please refer to your school’s VET Coordinator for more information. This does not include consumables.
